The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened applications for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1, in line with its mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), to regulate the teaching profession in Ghana.

According to NTC, the licensure examination is compulsory for all individuals who wish to teach in Ghana.

What Candidates Will Write

All fresh candidates are required to take three papers:

Multiple Subjects Content: For those trained in Early Grade/Early Childhood or Primary Education.

Single Subject Specialism: For candidates trained for Junior High School, Senior High School, or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), based on their area of specialization.

Who Is Eligible for NTC Exams?

You may apply for the 2025 GTLE 1 if:

You hold a Bachelor of Education Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

If you hold a foreign degree, you must provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

Start with Indexing: A Must for Fresh Candidates

Before registering, fresh applicants must complete the indexing process. Here’s how:

Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to check if your institution has uploaded your data.

If uploaded, proceed to indexing. Pay a fee of GH₵ 50.00 at any Prudential Bank branch or via 77251# using your index number.

After payment, a message will be sent to your phone with your indexing number.

Use that number to verify your details and register for the exam.

Important Notices for Applicants

Do not pay if your details haven’t been uploaded by your training institution.

Candidates without a degree qualification cannot pay for indexing.

Registration Fees and Steps

Fresh Candidates: GH₵ 450.00 for three papers

Re-sit Candidates:

One paper – GH₵ 150.00

Two papers – GH₵ 210.00

All three papers – GH₵ 385.00

Payment Options:

At any Prudential Bank branch (collect Serial and PIN)

Or mobile money via 77251#

Registration Portal: https://exams.ntc.gov.gh

Use your Serial Number and PIN to log in, fill in your details, and upload a passport photo (white background, under 250KB).

Final Reminders Before Submission

No refund will be issued if an unqualified person makes payment.

Ensure your photo is correct before submitting—no changes allowed later.

Print a summary of your inputs and keep your PIN and Serial Number for future use.

🗓️ Deadline for Registration: 7th July 2025

No extensions will be granted.

Key Dos and Don’ts for Candidates

Use a unique phone number for each voucher purchase to avoid registration issues.

Adhere to the formal/professional dress code.

No babies are allowed in the examination hall.

Special Note for Re-sit Candidates

This registration includes a final re-sit opportunity in October 2025. Candidates who fail this attempt must begin the licensure process afresh by joining teacher education institutions for the professional exam from 2026 onwards.

📅 18th – 20th July 2025

The Licensure Examination aims to certify that candidates meet the standards of professional knowledge, practice, values, and attitudes necessary for effective teaching in Ghanaian schools.
