In an interview on The Delay Show, hosted by Deloris Frimpong Manso, Ghanaian politician and educationist, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, shared an emotional account on his personal journey with his wife before the birth of their first child.
During the interview, Dr. Adutwum disclosed that he and his wife had to wait 14 years after their marriage before welcoming their first child. According to him, they got married in 1990 with high hopes of quickly building a family. Like many newly married couples, they looked forward to the joy of parenthood. However, their journey took a difficult and unexpected turn.
Dr. Adutwum explained that in the early years of their marriage whilst un United States, his wife became pregnant but unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. What made the situation even more painful was that the medical treatment following the miscarriage was not properly handled. As a result, further medical examinations later revealed complications that made it appear unlikely for his wife to conceive again.

According to Dr. Adutwum, doctors later informed them that his wife’s womb was not in a condition that would allow her to carry another pregnancy. This medical pronouncement was heartbreaking for the couple, especially since they had been looking forward to building a family together. Initially, they found it difficult to accept the diagnosis and struggled with the reality of the situation.
Despite the discouraging medical report, the couple held firmly to their faith and continued to pray and believe that things could change. Dr. Adutwum explained that although they eventually acknowledged the medical assessment, they did not allow it to destroy their hope. Instead, they continued to trust in God and remained optimistic about the future.
Years passed, and the couple continued their journey with patience and faith. Dr. Adutwum stated that after 14 years of waiting, praying, and hoping, they finally received the miracle they had long desired. In 2004, his wife conceived again, and they were blessed with their first child.
Dr. Adutwum further revealed during the interview that their family has continued to grow since then. Today, he and his wife are blessed with three children, a reality that once seemed impossible based on the medical reports they had received earlier in their marriage.
Reflecting on his life’s journey, Dr. Adutwum noted that his early life and personal experiences were not always predictable. Looking at where he started and where he is today, he believes that his story demonstrates how perseverance, faith, and determination can help people overcome life’s challenges. He acknowledged that God has been merciful to him throughout his journey, guiding him through both personal struggles and professional achievements.
He concluded the interview by offering words of encouragement to Ghanaians and people around the world, particularly young people. Dr. Adutwum advised them to remain hopeful in difficult times, trust in God, and believe in their abilities and dreams. According to him, challenges and setbacks are part of life, but they should never cause people to give up on their aspirations.
